SDSU Twelfth Ave Parking Lot
Civil Design Inc led a consulting team that included a landscape architect and electrical engineer to design a parking lot on the South Dakota State University campus. The parking lot provides parking for approximately 300 vehicles, including handicap accessible and motorcycle parking. A majority of the on street parking has been eliminated in the adjacent areas, thus providing for added traffic and pedestrian safety.
Unique features of this project include the design of two bio-detention ponds to control storm water and provide for improved storm water quality. The ponds were designed to detain the increase in storm water and release it at the historic flows. Berming and landscaping provides a visual barrier of the parking lot from traffic and pedestrians. The project also included the reconstruction of 13th Avenue, adjacent to the parking lot. The street was uniquely designed with a landscaped center median and is one of the main entrances into SDSU Campus. Construction of this project began in 2010 and was completed in 2011.
