Campground Expansion & Entrance Modification

Oakwood Lakes State Park/Lake Poinsett Recreation Area

Owner: SD Game, Fish and Parks
Location: Oakwood Lakes, South Dakota

Civil Design Inc. worked with the SD Game, Fish, and Parks to plan and create a new campground at Oakwood Lakes State Park in Eastern South Dakota. Completed in 2006, the new camp pads and comfort station were constructed south of the older established campground. CDI assisted with parking and entrance station site work, as well as designing a trailer dump station and other support facilities. CDI's engineers changed the design of the former north entrance road by narrowing it to create a bike and walking path thus salvaging the asphalt paving that was already in place. The former south entrance road was obliterated and a completely new entrance was constructed to provide better access and security for the patrons. Due to the environmental sensitivity of the area, CDI was careful in its design to maintain the natural habitat. Special care was taken during construction to salvage as many trees as possible.

As part of the construction package, Civil Design Inc. also designed a modified entrance road for Lake Poinsett Recreation Area. This work included a new trailer dump station, sanitary sewer line, lift station, potable water line, and asphalt parking around the entrance center.

Civil Design Inc. performed al planning, preliminary surveying, design, plan preparation, permitting, construction staking and construction administration for both the Oakwood Lakes and Lake Poinsett recreation projects.
