VeraSun Energy VeraSun Energy was one of the largest ethanol producers in the US with sixteen (16) production facilities located in eight states. VeraSun Energy production facilities refined corn into ethanol and also marketed the by-product of distillers grain (DDG) and their branded VE85™ fuel. VeraSun Energy transported the majority of their products and by-products by rail. Rail was also used for inbound corn. Civil Design Inc. provided the planning, design, and implementation of the railroad infrastructure for virtually all of VeraSun Energy's production facilities. CDI helped increase VeraSun's shipping capability by designing track that enabled the plants to receive a unit train of corn while shipping unit trains of ethanol and DDG at the same time. CDI also provided site design services for expanding several of the existing production facilities to add oil extraction capabilities. In addition, Civil Design Inc. provided VeraSun with planning and feasibility studies for several proposed sites for new ethanol bio-refineries in Minnesota, Iowa, South Dakota, Nebraska, Indiana, and Illinois. CDI also provided the ethanol producer with construction staking and as-built mapping for several new and expanded ethanol bio-refineries in South Dakota, Minnesota, Illinois, and Iowa. ![]() |
