Oakes 110 Car Railroad Shuttle Facility
Civil Design Inc was contacted to provide railroad engineering and construction for new grain elevator facility in Oakes, ND. The criteria for design included the capability to ship unit trains of grain on either the BNSF or the Canadian Pacific Railroads. CDI worked with the railroads and the owners to plan the rail configuration and submitted the preliminary plans to the Railroads for approval. CDI provided an analysis of the right-of-way required for the construction and prepared easements essential for completion of the project.
Given several methods for delivery of the project, the owner chose to contract Civil Design Inc for a complete design/build project. CDI arranged for all contractors and managed all construction to completion. This project installed 12,000 track-feet of rail on the DMVW Railroad, with connections to the BNSF and the Canadian Pacific Railroads. Since three railroads were involved in the completed project, specifications for construction were developed meeting the most stringent requirements of the three railroads.
