MRC Chamberlain Bridge
Included with Phase 2 of the MRC project was the rehabilitation of 33 bridges, one of which was the Missouri River Bridge. Rehabilitation of the MRC was partially funded by a Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) Grant. The second phase of the rehabilitation covered 42.4 miles of rail from Chamberlain to Presho. Included within the second phase was the rehabilitation of the 4,891 foot Chamberlain Bridge. Bridge materials including rail, inside guardrail, OTM, all bridge timber, and timber hardware were removed and replaced with upgraded material to meet the design load for 286,000 pound cars. 90 pound rail to be replaced with 136 pound continuously welded rail. CDI provided all design and construction administration services for this project. Total cost of all bridge rehabilitation totaled $2.9 million. Most bridges were timber tressels with 3 steel stringer structures.
