Civil Design Inc produced the site layout and rail access for a new grain transfer facility near Miller, SD. The 120 rail car loop was designed to comply with Canadian Pacific and BNSF Railroad specifications. Site road construction required extensive modifications to US Hwy 14 including auxiliary turn lanes that were constructed to accommodate truck traffic accessing the site. CDI worked with the South Dakota Department of Transportation on the design and layout for the turn lanes. The site included several Jurisdictional wetlands. CDI prepared a mitigation plan and all wetland permitting through the US Army Corps of Engineers.
The Preliminary Topographic Survey, Site and Rail Design Alternatives, Plans and Specifications, Construction Administration, Construction Observation and Construction Staking were all performed by CDI. Construction began in the spring of 2012 with site grading. Rail construction was completed in the July of 2013. All construction supervised by CDI totaled $3.61 million.
