Civil Design Inc produced the design for the site layout and rail access to a new grain transfer facility near Kimball, SD. The 120 rail car loop was designed to comply with the BNSF and UP Railroad specifications. The site road was designed to stage 40 grain trucks prior to the entrance scale, alleviating congestion on the county road. The site access required reconstructing the adjacent county road. Several jurisdictional wetlands were accounted for upon preliminary design. CDI prepared all wetland permitting through the US Army Corps of Engineers.
Preliminary Topographic Survey, Site and Rail Design Alternatives, Plans and Specifications, Construction Administration, Construction Observation and Construction Staking were provided by CDI. Construction began in the summer of 2011 with site grading. Rail construction was completed in the October of 2012. All construction supervised by CDI totaled $4.49 million.
