The SDWG Andover grain transfer facility has provided improved seed and chemical handling services as well as an additional 3.3 million bushels of storage capacity to South Dakota Wheat Growers customers in the Andover area. Project construction was completed in 2010.
Designed by CDI, a 120 rail car loop system fulfilled SD Wheat Growers needs and complied with the BNSF Railroad Specifications. The terrain and usable land on the site presented challenges due to soil conditions and wetlands. Site exploration included an archaeological study and jurisdictional wetland determination and delineation.
The completed design allowed for future expansion and an agronomy center. The site road integrated stacking for 50 semi-trucks and access to the entrance and exit scales. Modifications to the median of a 4-lane divided highway and the site entrance were made to accommodate the truck traffic accessing the site.
