Harrold Terminal 120 Car Loop Track
CDI was retained by Harrold Terminal to produce design alternatives for rail access to a new grain elevator. The alternative to have a 120 car rail loop was chosen. This project is unique in that the facility is located on the RCPE (Genesee &Wyoming) mainline but served by BNSF shuttle trains. The design complies with the specifications of the CP, G&W, and BNSF Railroads.
CDI also designed the drainage and elevator site layout. Approval for the grain elevator had to be attained from the Federal Aviation Administration due to a local airport. It was the responsibility of CDI to perform the preliminary topographic survey, design, plans and specifications, construction administration, permitting, and construction staking. Construction began in the fall of 2009 with facilities operating for harvest 2010. In the fall of 2010, CDI completed an expansion to the site by adding 3 flat grain storage bunkers. Each bunker was 140’ by 400’ and capable of storing approximately 1.25 million bushels. Construction for which CDI was responsible totaled $2.65 million.
