Archer Daniels Midland

Rail construction of the first Archer Daniels Midland grain facility in South Dakota was a CDI completed project in 2012.

The facility, capable of storing 2.2 million bushels, features a 120 rail car loop and was designed to comply with BNSF Railroad Specification.  CDI’s innovative design incorporated environmental engineering construction techniques to allow for the rail loop to cross a wetlands and site-specific drainage designs.

The site access required a traffic study and extensive modifications to US Hwy 281 and SD Hwy 28.  Since access to the facility was gained at this intersection, auxiliary turn lanes were constructed to accommodate the truck traffic accessing the site. CDI worked with the South Dakota DOT on the design and layout for the turn lanes.
