SDSU Horse Unit Waterline
Constructed in 2005, this project replaced deficient water mains located at the west edge of campus in order to provide adequate supply and pressure of potable water for animals and fire suppression. Old cast iron waterlines were replaced with PVC. New valves for isolation and control were installed, and new service lines were installed for water supply to pens, barns, and other animal and domestic areas. Barn hydrants in pen areas and in unheated buildings provided a frost-proof supply of water year-round.
A challenge presented by this project was inadequate records of in-place piping as well as the requirement of water supply to the facility during construction. Thus, outage times required for connections were limited.
Completed almost 25 percent under budget, this project successfully met the demands of both owner and users.
