Indian Hills/Timberline Additions Drainage Improvements
For many years, the City of Brookings lacked formal plans for the control of increased runoff due to development. As the upstream areas of the watersheds began to develop and increase runoff, it was apparent that the increased volume and speed of runoff caused damage to properties of subservient landowners. Under the direction of newly appointed City Engineer Jackie Lanning, CDI was retained to analyze and recommend solutions to solve runoff problems. Due to collateral damage caused by runoff of previous storms, this project was politically sensitive. CDI was involved in public and private meetings with the City Council and others to present design solutions to the problems.
CDI completed the design phase of this project to install three detention basins with improvements in the runoff collection system. One of the major challenges for designers was to integrate detention and channel improvements through a residential area and along a portion of the city bike trail, keeping the aesthetic beauty to reduce objections by neighbors. Construction on this project was completed in 2007.
